COVID-19, food insecurity, and cash transfer in Cambodia

March 21, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Mobility restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic have increased the risk of food insecurity. To help households ease the burden, the Government of Cambodia introduced a cash transfer program (CTP) scheme targeting 560,000 (later expanded to 710,000) poor and vulnerable households.

This seminar will discuss the extent to which the CTP in Cambodia has been effective for poor households in maintaining food security during COVID-19. Ari Perdana (PhD candidate, Maastricht University) will present some preliminary findings from a large-scale household phone survey conducted during the pandemic in Cambodia.

Paper presenter:
Ari Perdana (Maastricht University)
Discussants:

  • Sokcheng Sim (Cambodia Development Resource Institute, Cambodia)
  • Dr Kimlong Chheng (Asia Vision Institute, Cambodia)

Chair: Vichea Vanna Phuong (Cambodia Development Resource Institute, Cambodia)
