Desk Study on EU-China’s Development Cooperation in Cambodia

Start Date: 08/05/2020

End Date: 31/12/2020

Project Objective

The study’s longer-term vision is to create space for possible follow-up on Chinese/European cooperation initiatives based on the findings and recommendations of the report. It is also foreseen to promote a high-level dialogue between Chinese and European Development Partners on possible synergies and opportunities for cooperation to support the achievement of Cambodia’s SDGs. The study might also give a platform and entry point to China’s recently established Agency for Development Cooperation, the Chinese International Development and Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), which could be interested in the outcomes of the study.

Project Description

In this context of promoting Cambodia’s Sustainable Development Goals and aid effectiveness, and with the aim to inform the preparation of the next Joint European Strategy 2020-2024, European partners in Cambodia agreed to conduct an analysis on European and Chinese development cooperation portfolio in Cambodia. The study is to give an overview of the two biggest donors’ assistance and priority sectors of intervention in the country, and what synergies/complementarities could exist between China and European partners in the field of development cooperation, to inform a dialogue between European, Chinese and Cambodian partners to improve the coordination of development assistance to Cambodia.
