2015 Annual Symposium on
“Building Research Capacity for Cambodia”

15-16 September 2015,

Hotel Cambodiana, Phnom Penh

The DRF Symposium, held annually since 2008, is a key activity of the Cambodia Development Research Forum (DRF). The 2015 DRF Symposium theme “Building Research Capacity for Cambodia” is organised by a partnership of the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) as coordinator of the DRF, and its DRF partners: Cambodia Economic Association (CEA), The Learning Institute (LI), National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) and the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC), with support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

The theme “Building Research Capacity for Cambodia” reflects an important role of education that drives economic growth in Cambodia and the education reform is underway. This highlights the need for policy-relevant research that both supports the information demands of decision and policymakers and draws attention to emerging challenges and opportunities as education reform evolves. However, the interface between research and policy making capacities is highly complex. Policymakers often regard research findings as untimely or only partly relevant, lacking in quality, impenetrable, ambiguous and contradictory. Bridging this gap requires investment in building the capacities of researchers to translate and communicate their findings and the abilities of policymakers to put research evidence to work.

Call for Presentations
The symposium welcomes paper submissions from researchers, practitioners, lecturers, professors and students in research studies that cover broader research issues such as but not limited to economic growth, natural resource management, higher education and skill development, health research and education, agricultural and rural development, and Cambodia’s regional cooperation. The presentations should highlight some experiences, challenges and lessons learnt with recommendation on further research priorities of education policy, reform and research priorities.

Submission Guideline
Abstract of the paper should be submitted in English language (and Khmer language if available) by email to Mr Em Sorany at by no later than 15 August 2015. When accepted, the PowerPoint presentation is requested. No full paper is required.
