The Effects of Scholarship Programs on Educational Performance Among Students from Poor Households in Cambodia

Project Description
Education is a key driver of socioeconomic mobility, yet poverty remains a major barrier for Cambodian students. Scholarship programs, highlighted in the National Social Protection Policy Framework (NSPPF) 2024–2035 and Sub-Decree No. 34, aim to expand equitable access and improve academic outcomes for children from poor households. However, the actual impact of scholarships on performance, retention, and engagement has not been fully examined, with existing studies outdated since 2019. This research will provide updated empirical evidence to assess the effectiveness of scholarships in improving student outcomes and guiding future policy decisions.

Project Objective
This study aims to assess the effect of scholarship programs on educational performance among students from poor households in Cambodia. It seeks to analyze the extent to which financial assistance influences academic attainment, dropout rates, and overall student engagement. By leveraging data within the framework of the NSPPF, this research will provide evidence-based insights into the role of scholarships in bridging educational gaps and fostering long-term socioeconomic resilience.
