MAK Sithirith

Scientist and Director

Mak Sithirith earned his Ph.D. in Geography from the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore in 2011, where he was awarded the Wang Gungwu Medal and Prize for the best Ph.D. dissertation. In 2014, he undertook a post-doctoral fellowship on transboundary water governance and climate change impacts in the Lower Mekong Basin at the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands. In 2022, he began a second post-doctoral fellowship at WorldFish, where he concentrated on food system governance in the Mekong Delta in Cambodia. In late 2024, he was promoted to Scientist at WorldFish. In addition, Dr. Mak Sithirith teaches the environment and natural resources management in a number of universities in Cambodia, including the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), where he was promoted to a Professor in 2023. In 2024, he was also invited to be a Visiting Professor at the Mohasarakham University in ThailandHe has published several peer-review publications on water governance, fisheries, Tonle Sap and the Mekong. His publication can be viewed here. He joins the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) as a Scientist and Director of the Center of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE)
